Location: Tuggeranong and Belconnen, ACT
Division: Energy
End User: Canberra City Council / ACTION Buses
Client: BMD Constructions
Project manager: Shayne Findlater
Year completed: 2013
Description:
Fuel and oil systems required updating and upgrading to meet today’s AS 1940 standards and updated client requirements.
OPEC scope:
OPEC was engaged to decommission, demolish and replace the AST (Belconnen) and to refurbish the existing UST (Tuggeranong). On both sites OPEC has installed new fuel infrastructure and dispensers and installed and upgraded the oil delivery and dispensing systems to the workshops.
Challenges/solutions:
Delivery of the project while bus depots remained operational. Careful project management and time saving demolition and installation methodology allowed OPEC to complete the works on time with 100% fuel availability at all times.
Innovations:
Install stainless steel pipework to ensure corrosion resistance and minimise site installation time. Develop a time saving demolition/extraction methodology using specialised equipment to decommission the old underground tanks with minimal site disturbance and zero environmental spill.
