Trigger’s Big Trek – Raising Funds for Military PTSD Sufferers

OPEC is delighted to donate to former Australian infantry soldier Royce “Rolls” Hardman, who will walk around Australia solo/unsupported (from Perth, anti-clockwise) to raise awareness and money for military PTSD sufferers and their families.

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, is a mental health problem that can occur following the direct experience or witnessing of life-threatening events such as military combat. Because the symptoms of PTSD and other trauma reactions change how a trauma survivor feels and acts, traumatic experiences that happen to one member of a family can affect everyone else in the family. Trauma symptoms can make individuals hard to get along with or cause them to withdraw from the rest of the family. When trauma reactions are severe and go on for a while without treatment, they can cause major problems in a family. Rolls will be undertaking the walk with his dog Trigger, a two year-old pedigree Blue American Staffy. A tentative start date of late September has been set, the walk will take between 18 months to two years.
