Description:

Fuel installation upgrade works (NAT-0466) for the Defence Science and Technology Organisation

OPEC scope:

OPEC was engaged to design, supply, install and commission the upgrade works comprising of civil works, structural works, mechanical installations, electrical control systems, lightning protection infrastructure and earthing systems.

Challenges/solutions:    

Geotechnical report indicated changed ground conditions to tender specifications. OPEC redesigned the structures with increased footings.

Non-compliant lightning protection found on site. OPEC replaced existing non-compliant systems with new compliant infrastructure. Changed functionality requirements of control systems. OPEC re-designed the PLC protocols to meet client requirement and code compliance.

Innovations:

Innovative design of the lighting to reduce civil construction. Redesign of the platform system to allow access of all 9 tanks from one access location for maintenance and inspection dipping.
