Marine: WA plays host to OPEC’s Basic Equipment Operators Course

OPEC Systems held a Basic Equipment Operators course during June in Fremantle WA, which was attended by a representatives from both Government and Port Authorities.

The Basic Equipment Operators course is designed to teach students the basic principles of first strike response in a marine pollution setting. The course covers a variety of topics and has an excellent balance of theory and practical deployment exercises.

First strike response equipment is made up of a combination of containment booms (curtain, fence and shoreline sealing booms) as well as recovery and storage equipment.

The first strike response principle of safely containing the spill at its source is rehearsed and executed throughout the course and gives participants the opportunity to familiarise themselves with their local equipment.
