Defence Update Nationwide Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Map

Defence has undertaken research to identify and define unexploded ordnance (UXO) locations and has recently updated their nationwide UXO map.

UXO is ammunition such as artillery shells, mortar bombs and grenades that did not explode when used. UXO pose a safety risk as they have the potential to detonate if disturbed.

UXO can be found in most Australian states and territories, with the majority located on land formerly used by Australian and Allied Defence Forces for the live firing of explosive ordnance, particularly during World War II.

This updated information may be useful for landholders and others wishing to know more about their likely level of UXO contamination.
