Location: Orchard Hills

Division: Energy

End user: Department of Defence

Client: Department of Defence

Project manager: Kieron Zajac / Bill Sinclair

Year completed: 2020

Description:

Decommissioning of the existing light vehicle refuelling point. Construction of a new vehicle refuelling point and upgrade to the fuelling infrastructure associated with a building back generation system.

OPEC scope:

OPEC was engaged to complete the construction, testing, commissioning, training and handover of a new Ground Fuel Point to service defence vehicles The new vehicle fuel point was designed to store and supply unleaded petrol and diesel fuels for use in light and medium defence vehicles. OPEC commenced the installation of fuel point canopy, lighting, concrete forecourt, kerb & gutter, aboveground fuel equipment & pipework, electrical and instrumentation, spill equipment, firefighting equipment and signage.

Challenges/solutions:

Prior to commencing the installation works, OPEC was required to remediate the site of asbestos-containing materials within the soils of the proposed fuel point. Upon successful remediation under OPEC’s Class A asbestos license, OPEC commenced the significant civil engineering task of preparing the ground for installation of subsurface equipment such as oil water separator tanks, storm water, electrical/instrumentation conduits and wires, canopy foundations, transition/containment pits and underground secondary contained fuel pipework.

Innovations:

Engineering assistance and redesign of stormwater services to mitigate/solve legacy issues.
